The French Port of Rochefort-Tonnay-Charentes Implements Canadian HydraGEN Technology on Cranes

The French Port of Rochefort-Tonnay-Charentes has taken a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions by deploying Canadian dynaCERT’s hydrogen-based technology, HydraGEN, on a crane for the first time. This initiative aims to minimize the environmental impact of port tools, machinery, and equipment.

The HydraGEN technology, an innovative aftermarket unit that produces hydrogen and oxygen through an electrolysis system, required an investment of €58,000 by the port. The system was installed on the first crane on July 1, 2025, with plans to outfit four more cranes by the end of the year.

To validate the effectiveness of the technology, the port conducted tests starting in December 2024. These tests involved comparing emissions when using the crane with and without HydraGEN, ultimately concluding that the technology leads to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Gérard Pons, President of the Rochefort-Tonnay-Charente Commercial Port Joint Association, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, stating, “With this choice, we are reducing our environmental footprint and saving fuel. The Port, thus becoming more competitive, is looking to the future and is consistent with the desire to maintain a cutting-edge Port, attractive to businesses and investors. This system is not just a technical improvement; it reflects our vision for a Rochefort focused on the future.”

Jim Payne, Chairman and CEO of dynaCERT, commended the Port of Rochefort-Tonnay-Charentes for their commitment to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. He stated, “The entire team at dynaCERT, along with dynaCERT GmbH team in Europe is very pleased to see the progress of IPMD, our French distributor in Europe, along with the acceptance of our HydraGEN™ Technology which is designed to reduce carbon emissions on diesel engines.”
