Cameron LNG Celebrates 1,000th Cargo Export Milestone
Cameron LNG, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project located in Hackberry, Louisiana, recently achieved a significant milestone by exporting its 1,000th cargo. This achievement underscores the project’s success in meeting global energy demands.
The milestone shipment, which marked the 1,000th cargo export, departed from the Louisiana facility aboard the Maran Gas Kimolos. Over the past six years of commercial operations, Cameron LNG has shipped LNG to 37 countries, contributing to the diversification of energy sources worldwide.
Joint Ownership and Expansion Plans
Cameron LNG is a collaborative effort among key energy players, including Sempra Infrastructure (50.2%), TotalEnergies (16.6%), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (16.6%), and Japan LNG Investment (16.6%), a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK).
As a three-train facility situated 18 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico/America on the Calcasieu ship channel, Cameron LNG has a current export capacity of up to 14.95 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). The facility commenced commercial operations for Train 1 in August 2019, followed by Train 2 in March 2020 and Train 3 in August 2020.
Originally planned as a two-train expansion project with a 4.98-mtpa capacity, Cameron LNG recently sought approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a revised permit in 2022. The updated plan includes a single 6.75-mtpa train, increasing the project’s total maximum production capacity to 21.7 mtpa.
