Fugro Successfully Completes Initial Phase of Geotechnical Surveys at Dogger Bank South East Offshore Wind Farm Site

Fugro has wrapped up the first phase of geotechnical site investigations at the Dogger Bank South (DBS) East offshore wind farm site, which is situated over 100 kilometers off the northeastern coast of England.

The initial round of geotechnical surveys commenced in May and was executed by the vessel Fugro Revelation, concluding its operations on July 13. The subsequent phase is set to kick off soon and will be carried out by the vessels RS Alegranza and Fugro Scout. These vessels are expected to begin operations by late July and will continue working at the DBS East site until the end of September or early October.

The Dutch geo-data specialist has previously worked at the two Dogger Bank South sites, conducting preliminary geophysical and geotechnical investigations, a shallow geotechnical survey on the export cable route, and a detailed geotechnical investigation of DBS West.

Earlier this year, Fugro inked a new contract with DBS developers RWE and Masdar for a comprehensive geotechnical survey of the eastern array of the proposed Dogger Bank South.

DBS East and DBS West are anticipated to have a combined capacity of 3 GW.

The UK’s Planning Inspectorate recently concluded its six-month Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) examination period for Dogger Bank South and is in the process of preparing and submitting a detailed report with recommendations to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero within the next three months. A consent decision is expected within the following six months.

If approved, and subsequent to a financial investment decision (FID), construction could potentially commence in 2026/2027.
