Norway’s BW Energy Chooses Deepsea Mira for Kharas Appraisal Well in Namibia

Norway’s BW Energy has decided to drill its Kharas appraisal well off Namibia using the 2018-built Deepsea Mira, owned by the semisub spin-off of Northern Drilling, Northern Ocean.

The rig will be operating on the Kudu license offshore Namibia in the Orange Basin and is scheduled to complete the work in the second half of 2025.

This agreement is part of a rig-sharing arrangement with Rhino Resources, providing access to an in-country rig with a service team experienced in the Orange Basin.

BW Energy serves as the operator of the Kudu production license with a 95% working interest, while NAMCOR holds the remaining 5% carried interest.

John Fredriksen-controlled Northern Ocean recently announced that Rhino had hired the rig for one firm well and three optional wells. It has now been confirmed that BW Energy is the other customer for the rig.

The Rhino contract has an estimated firm duration of 112 days with a projected value of approximately $40 million.
