Tragedy Strikes as Sailboat Collides with Barge Near Hibiscus Island, Miami

A sailboat collision near Hibiscus Island, Miami, has left a devastating toll with two lives lost and several others in critical condition.

The incident unfolded on Monday when a sailboat collided with a barge, prompting an immediate response from Miami Beach Fire Rescue teams. The rescue efforts were later reinforced by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, City of Miami Fire Rescue, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and Coast Guard Station Miami Beach.

Amidst the chaos, six individuals were rescued from the water. Tragically, two young girls, aged 7 and 13, were pronounced dead upon their arrival at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The loss of these innocent lives has cast a shadow over the local community.

Additionally, two other girls, aged 8 and 11, are currently in critical condition, fighting for their lives. The bravery and swift actions of the rescue teams have been crucial in providing aid to those in need. Among the survivors are a 12-year-old female and a 19-year-old female, who are receiving medical attention and care.

The sailing vessel involved in the collision remains submerged under the barge, adding complexity to the ongoing rescue and recovery operations. To ensure safety and facilitate the operation, Sector Miami has established a 250-yard safety zone around the site of the incident.
