Fugro Partners with SDG Data Alliance to Boost Climate Resilience in Caribbean Nations

Fugro has joined forces with the SDG Data Alliance to assist Caribbean nations in addressing the escalating risks of climate change.

Under a newly established agreement, the collaboration aims to bolster coastal resilience by enhancing technical capabilities and facilitating access to decision-ready geospatial insights. These initiatives will enable Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to better respond to challenges such as rising sea levels and intensified storms.

Many Caribbean SIDS encounter difficulties in obtaining high-quality geospatial data, digital infrastructure, and technical expertise essential for assessing risks and devising effective adaptation strategies. Leveraging its track record of success in the region, Fugro will bridge these gaps by delivering high-resolution mapping, expert analysis, data visualization, and hands-on training. These efforts will be channeled through the SIDS Global Data Hub, a digital platform housed within the SIDS Centre of Excellence.

The collaboration will also align with the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS), a strategic framework adopted at the 2024 UN SIDS4 Conference aimed at fostering resilient prosperity in island nations.

This partnership builds on Fugro’s recent alliance with Esri, a founding member of the Data Alliance, to broaden access to crucial data and tools for climate resilience. It precedes the upcoming fifteenth session of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), where Dr. Valrie Grant, a geospatial professional and Caribbean lead in Fugro’s Climate and Nature practice, will represent the company. Dr. Grant, who joined Fugro in May, will play a pivotal role in advancing the impact of both partnerships throughout the region.
