EverWind Fuels Boosts Green Fleet with Three Lower-Emission Tugboats

EverWind Fuels, a leading North American developer of sustainable fuel solutions, has recently welcomed a new fleet of three lower-emission tugboats to support its innovative Point Tupper Green Fuels Project and marine operations in the Strait of Canso, Canada.

The company’s strategic investment in these tugboats marks a significant milestone in advancing environmentally friendly transportation solutions in the region. The fleet, acquired from renowned Dutch conglomerate Damen, comprises a Damen ASD 3212 tug and two Damen RSD 2513 tugs, equipped with cutting-edge technology to enhance operational efficiency and reduce emissions.

With a focus on sustainability, EverWind’s new tugboats are designed to meet the stringent International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emissions standards, ensuring a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The vessels are expected to achieve an impressive 80% decrease in nitrogen oxides (NOx) and a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the existing fleet.

These eco-friendly tugboats will play a crucial role in supporting EverWind’s marine operations, particularly in transporting green hydrogen and ammonia produced at the Point Tupper facility. The project, which has received environmental approval and completed the front-end engineering design phase, represents a significant advancement in sustainable energy production in North America.

Utilizing advanced technology such as PEM electrolyzers and ammonia synthesis from Casale S.A., the Point Tupper project aims to convert water and renewable energy from wind farms into green hydrogen and ammonia. The initial phase is set to produce 240,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia by 2025, with plans to ramp up production to 1 million tonnes per annum by 2026.

As EverWind continues to lead the charge in environmentally conscious fuel solutions, the addition of these state-of-the-art tugboats underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the maritime industry. With a focus on reducing emissions and promoting clean energy alternatives, EverWind is poised to make a significant impact on the transition to a greener future.
