The Hong Kong and China Gas Company (Towngas) and CIMC ENRIC Partner to Develop Green Methanol and Hydrogen Energy
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company (Towngas) and clean energy equipment and services provider CIMC ENRIC have recently inked a strategic partnership agreement aimed at jointly developing green methanol and hydrogen energy solutions.
Under this partnership, the two companies will focus on enhancing collaboration in technical cooperation, engineering services, industry standards, and carbon trading compliance related to green methanol. Towngas, known for being the first Chinese company to secure both ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS international certifications for large-scale green methanol production, intends to capitalize on its green methanol supply chain network. Meanwhile, CIMC ENRIC’s expertise in the clean energy and maritime sectors will be leveraged to explore new technological applications and drive the adoption of green methanol.
When it comes to hydrogen energy, the partnership will extend to cooperation in hydrogen extraction, purification, storage, and utilization. The companies will work together to develop advanced hydrogen extraction and storage technologies while expanding hydrogen applications in various sectors, including transport and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Notably, Towngas delivers approximately half of its gas supply in Hong Kong in the form of hydrogen through an extensive underground pipeline network spanning over 3,700 kilometers across the territory.
In addition to this partnership, Towngas has also established methanol collaborations with entities such as Global Energy Trading in Singapore, Pacific Basin Shipping Limited in Hong Kong, and Royal Vopak in the Netherlands. The company has even supplied green methanol to bunker supplier Golden Island for bunkering operations in Singapore.
On the other hand, CIMC ENRIC has teamed up with Hong Kong-based shipowner Wah Kwong to collaborate on renewable fuels projects, including green methanol initiatives.
