Nortek Launches Generation 2 Vector Velocimeter

Nortek has recently unveiled the Generation 2 version of its Vector velocimeter, catering to researchers seeking high-resolution current measurements and turbulent flow capture.

The Generation 2 Vector boasts a smaller form factor, reduced power consumption, and new features such as an echosounder mode, making it a versatile tool for various research applications. Building upon the success of the legacy Vector introduced in 1999, this upgraded version offers significant enhancements in both design and performance.

The compact design of the Generation 2 Vector allows for deployments in previously inaccessible areas, providing researchers with more flexibility in their data collection efforts. Compatibility with multiple battery canister options eliminates the need for internal batteries and enables users to select the most suitable power solution for their specific needs.

Furthermore, the Generation 2 Vector comes equipped with an interface box that facilitates communication via Ethernet and serial interfaces using a single cable. Additionally, an LED indicator blinks at the user-defined sampling rate during data collection, ensuring operational confidence throughout the deployment.

With modern electronics and advanced processing capabilities, the Generation 2 Vector delivers enhanced precision while optimizing power consumption, enabling extended deployment durations on the same battery power.

Notably, the inclusion of a short-range echosounder feature allows users to image structures within the water column, particularly beneficial for studies related to sediment transport and bottom morphology alterations.
