A search is underway for Turkish yacht manufacturer Halit Yukay, 43, founder and CEO of Mazu Yachts, after his private yacht, Graywolf, was discovered wrecked off the coast of Turkey, thought to be headed for the Greek island of Mykonos.
Yukay was alone when he reportedly departed Turkey on 2 August aboard his personal yacht. Footage showing the yacht departing from marina in Yalova confirms the departure. Communication was subsequently lost and when Yukay failed to arrive as expected, his family notified authorities on 4 August.
On 5 August at approximately 14:30 local time, the crew of a commercial vessel spotted debris floating off the coast of Marmara Island. The wreckage was later confirmed to be from Graywolf.
Initial underwater recordings taken by dive teams of the semi-submerged vessel revealed deep cracks, which investigators believe may have been caused by an accident.
Efforts to locate Yukay are continuing in the search and rescue operation led by Coast Guard teams and Turkish authorities. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway. Yukay founded Mazu Yachts in 2011, the company has not yet released a statement.
