Seadrill Secures New Contracts for Two Rigs in the US Gulf of Mexico

Seadrill, a leading offshore rig owner, has announced new contract wins for two of its rigs in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Contract Details

The 2013-built drillship West Vela has been awarded a two-well contract by Talos Energy, with a 90-day term set to commence in mid-November 2025. This follows the completion of a previous $73.5 million contract with Talos Energy, which began in February 2025 and is scheduled to end in September 2025.

The second rig, the 2013-built circular hull semisub Sevan Louisiana, has secured a three-well contract with Murphy Oil. The contract, which started in the current month, is expected to conclude in November 2025.

Order Backlog

As of August 6, 2025, Seadrill reported an order backlog of approximately $2.5 billion, indicating a strong pipeline of future projects.

These new contract awards showcase Seadrill’s continued success in the offshore drilling sector and highlight the company’s ability to secure long-term partnerships with key industry players.
