Seaspan Energy and Anew Climate Partner to Deliver Renewable LNG on North American West Coast

Seaspan Energy, based in North Vancouver, B.C., and Anew Climate, headquartered in Houston, Texas, have joined forces in a strategic agreement to provide renewable liquefied natural gas (R-LNG) delivery services to customers along the North American West Coast.

Under this partnership, Anew will supply renewable natural gas (RNG) certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) and offer pre-audit services to Seaspan for ISCC certification compliance. The RNG will adhere to global standard frameworks such as the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Net-Zero Framework and the FuelEU Maritime Regulation in the European Union.

This collaboration marks a pioneering effort on the West Coast, introducing a more sustainable fuel option for ship owners. Building on the successful bio-LNG bunkering facilitated by Anew Climate in 2021, Seaspan Energy, a subsidiary of Seaspan ULC, will expand its marine bunkering portfolio to include ISCC-certified R-LNG for customers across the West Coast.

Andy Brosnan, President of Anew Climate Low Carbon Fuels, expressed, “At a time when global shipping is under pressure to decarbonize, this partnership brings together two innovators committed to advancing sustainable solutions. By leveraging Anew’s RNG expertise with Seaspan’s marine logistical capabilities, we offer a leading approach to assist shipowners in meeting evolving emissions requirements and reducing their environmental impact without compromising performance.”

The initiative aligns with the IMO’s directives to encourage emissions reductions through the use of alternative fuels like R-LNG, paving the way for a cleaner energy future in the maritime industry.

Harly Penner, President of Seaspan Energy, stated, “We’re proud to collaborate with Anew Climate in pioneering lower-carbon marine fuel solutions. This partnership underscores our commitment to providing cleaner energy options to the maritime sector while showcasing our dedication to innovation and environmental stewardship.”

This partnership signifies a significant stride towards delivering scalable, lower-carbon solutions to the maritime industry and expediting the transition to a cleaner energy landscape. Anew Climate and Seaspan will collaborate to identify and cultivate commercial opportunities that promote the adoption of lower-carbon fuels, with a specific focus on delivering ISCC-certified R-LNG to vessels throughout the region.
