Dutch Government Delays Completion of IJmuiden Ver Beta Offshore Wind Farm
The Dutch government has announced a three-year delay in the completion of the 2GW IJmuiden Ver Beta offshore wind farm, pushing the deadline to 2032.
The project developer, Zeevonk, a joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, initially aimed to finish the project by 2029. However, delays in the construction of the Delta Rhine Corridor have hindered the project’s timeline.
The Delta Rhine Corridor, a network of pipelines, conduits, and cables from Rotterdam to the German border, is now expected to be completed later than planned, making it economically unfeasible to adhere to the original permit.
As per the revised plan, the project will be executed in two phases. The first phase, with a capacity of 1GW, is set to be operational by 2029, while the second phase will be finalized by 2032, aligning with the expected completion of the Delta Rhine Corridor.
In addition to wind energy, the project will include a floating solar farm with a designed capacity of 50MW. The initial installation of 6MW is scheduled for 2028, with further expansion subject to favorable conditions.
