Cheniere Energy Achieves Substantial Completion of Train 2 at Corpus Christi LNG Facility

U.S. energy player Cheniere Energy has reached a significant milestone with the substantial completion of the second train as part of the expansion project at its liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility situated on the La Quinta Ship Channel in Texas.

Announced via social media last week, Cheniere confirmed the substantial completion of Train 2 at the Corpus Christi Stage 3 Liquefaction Project (CCL Stage 3). This achievement was delivered ahead of schedule, showcasing the company’s commitment to project timelines.

Bechtel Corporation, Cheniere’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner for the project, has officially handed over care, custody, and control of Train 2 and its associated systems to Cheniere. Train 1 at the CCL Stage 3 project had previously achieved substantial completion on March 16, 2025.

Looking ahead, Cheniere anticipates that Train 3 of CCL Stage 3 will also achieve substantial completion by the end of the year, with Train 4 entering the commissioning phase to start producing LNG. Upon the completion of all seven trains at CCL Stage 3, the total LNG production capacity of the facility is expected to exceed 25 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).

In addition to the ongoing expansion efforts, Cheniere recently made a final investment decision (FID) for Corpus Christi Midscale Trains 8 & 9 and the associated debottlenecking project in June. Bechtel will oversee this project, which will introduce two new trains adjacent to CCL Stage 3, adding 3 mtpa of LNG capacity upon completion.

Complementing its construction advancements, Cheniere secured an LNG supply agreement with Japan’s JERA last week. As part of the deal, JERA will procure around 1 mtpa of LNG from Cheniere Marketing on a free-on-board basis from 2029 through 2050.
