The Goldbutt: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s New Fisheries Surveillance Vessel

The TAMSEN MARITIM shipyard in Rostock-Gehlsdorf has recently delivered a new fisheries surveillance vessel (FAB) to the State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (LALLF). The vessel, named “Goldbutt,” was christened on August 7, 2025, in Sassnitz’s city harbor.

This marks TAMSEN MARITIM’s first new build commissioned by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The 17.3-meter-long and 4.9-meter-wide patrol boat, designed in-house by the shipyard, will be utilized for fisheries surveillance in the coastal waters of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Based in Sassnitz, the “Goldbutt” will primarily monitor commercial and recreational fishing activities. The vessel’s godmother is Franziska Mars, Head of Department 7 Fisheries and Fish Farming at LALLF MV in Rostock.

The FAB is equipped to accommodate a crew of three to six members. Constructed with an aluminum hull and superstructure, the vessel is powered by two 588 kW marine engines, enabling it to reach a maximum speed of approximately 30 knots.

Key Specifications of the Fisheries Patrol Boat:

  • Length: 17.3 meters
  • Width: 4.9 meters
  • Draught: 1.0 meters
  • Speed: Approximately 30 knots
