Fleetzero Collaborates with Glosten to Design World’s Longest-Range Hybrid Electric Vessel

Fleetzero, a leading developer and manufacturer of modular propulsion platforms for hybrid and electric ships, has partnered with Glosten, a top naval architecture and marine engineering firm, to design what is anticipated to be the world’s longest-range hybrid electric vessel. This collaboration signifies a significant advancement in the quest for zero-emission global shipping and the broader adoption of electric propulsion in commercial maritime applications.

Glosten has been actively involved in the retrofit of a Lightering Support Vessel owned and operated by AET. The vessel is undergoing a transformation with the installation of a plug-in hybrid-electric propulsion system, enabling it to primarily operate on battery power post-conversion.

“This vessel will serve as a major milestone, not just for Fleetzero, but for the entire maritime industry,” stated Steven Henderson, CEO of Fleetzero. “Teaming up with Glosten enables us to demonstrate how our propulsion technology can facilitate cost-effective, cleaner, and more efficient operations while pushing the boundaries of what is achievable in shipping.”

“We are thrilled to assist Fleetzero in this vessel transformation,” remarked Morgan Fanberg, CEO & President of Glosten. “It represents a bold step towards the next generation of marine technology, and we are proud to be a part of this advancement.”

With the vessel design phase currently underway, Fleetzero and Glosten are set to move into detailed engineering in the forthcoming months, with construction slated to commence in mid-2026. Upon completion, the vessel will serve as a blueprint for long-range hybrid-electric propulsion on a global scale.
