Saipem Successfully Completes Yellowtail Field Development for ExxonMobil Guyana Ltd.
Saipem, a leading global energy infrastructure company, has announced the successful completion of its scope of work for the development of the Yellowtail field, operated by ExxonMobil Guyana Ltd. This project was located in approximately 1,800m of water within the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.
Having been awarded the contract in 2022, Saipem undertook the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) of the Subsea Umbilical, Riser, and Flowline (SURF) system for the Yellowtail field. The FDS2 J-lay vessel, a flagship asset of Saipem, executed the installation of the rigid flowline and steel lazy wave risers in an early 2024 campaign.
The project was successfully concluded in 2025 with the Saipem Constellation executing the installation of flexible risers, umbilicals, and the connection of the pre-laid rigid riser to the FPSO.
In addition to the main vessels involved, the Normand Samson, a Saipem-chartered MSV (Multi-Support Vessel), played a crucial role throughout the offshore campaign from mid-2024. This vessel delivered subsea pre-commissioning, surveys, light construction, and installation of flowline jumpers that were fabricated at Saipem’s yard in Georgetown.
This successful completion of the Yellowtail field development project further solidifies Saipem’s reputation as a reliable and efficient partner in the offshore energy industry. With its state-of-the-art vessels and expertise in subsea infrastructure, Saipem continues to deliver high-quality solutions for its clients worldwide.
