Brazilian Drilling Contractor Constellation Oil Services Secures Contract Extension with Petrobras
Constellation Oil Services, a Brazilian drilling contractor, has announced a significant contract extension with Petrobras, the state-owned energy giant. The extension pertains to their semi-submersible rig, the Atlantic Star, allowing it to continue operations with Petrobras for an additional period of up to 301 days.
The contract extension, valued at up to $61 million, confirms the continuity of the operations that initially began in 2021. The Atlantic Star rig has been primarily utilized for well decommissioning activities in the Campos Basin, specifically in the Congro, Malhado, and Albacora fields at water depths ranging from 270 to 540 meters.
Rodrigo Ribeiro, CEO of Constellation, expressed his pride in serving Petrobras and highlighted the rig’s unique capabilities. He stated, “The Atlantic Star is the only anchored rig currently operating in Brazil and one of the few worldwide. This achievement reflects our confidence in the quality of our services, the rig’s integrity, and the exceptional competence of our team.”
With a track record dating back to 1996, the Atlantic Star is a mid-water moored semi-submersible rig capable of operating in water depths of up to 2,000 feet and drilling depths of up to 21,320 feet. Petrobras’ decision to extend the contract with Constellation underscores the trust and satisfaction in the services provided by the drilling contractor.
In addition to the contract extension for the Atlantic Star, Petrobras has also engaged Constellation for a multi-year drilling assignment using one of their drillships off the coast of Brazil. This partnership further solidifies Constellation’s position as a trusted provider of offshore drilling services in the region.
Furthermore, Constellation has been selected as one of the firms by Brava Energia for its first integrated development campaign at two offshore oil fields in Brazil. This recognition highlights Constellation’s expertise and capabilities in executing complex drilling operations in challenging offshore environments.
