NKT Awarded Two Turnkey Projects in Germany by TenneT

Danish offshore cabling specialist NKT has secured two turnkey projects in Germany under a multi-year framework agreement with transmission system operator TenneT.

TenneT has chosen NKT to supply 525 kV XLPE HVDC on- and offshore power cable systems for the LanWin7 and NordOstLink projects. The scope includes cable design, engineering, production, and installation both onshore and offshore.

The contracts for LanWin7 and NordOstLink, with a combined value of approximately €1bn ($1.04bn), are expected to be initiated in 2026-27, with commissioning scheduled for 2033-34. These projects mark the fourth and fifth awards to NKT under the framework agreement, which extends until 2028 with a potential extension to 2031.

Commenting on the latest projects, Claes Westerlind, president and CEO at NKT, stated, “Applying our power cable technology to these two additional projects in Germany will facilitate the efficient transport of wind power from the North Sea to the onshore grid, aiding in the energy transition in Europe.”
