TMC Compressors Secures Contract with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group for Eco-Friendly Boxships

Oslo-headquartered TMC Compressors has clinched a contract with China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group to deliver its ‘energy efficient’ compressed air systems to six eco-friendly 9,000 TEU boxships being constructed for Denmark’s A.P. Møller – Mærsk.

Under the contract, TMC Compressors will supply a marine compressed air system based on its Smart Air compressors, offering up to 40% energy savings compared to conventional systems. The system will include control and service air compressors.

The Smart Air compressors utilize frequency-controlled technology to provide precise control over compressor speed. This technology adjusts the motor speed to meet the required air volume, reducing power consumption with lower air consumption.

The containership sextet, set for delivery in 2026 and 2027, will feature dual-fuel technology, operating on both fuel oil and methanol. These 274-meter-long Post Panamax vessels aim to significantly reduce Maersk’s annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 450,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year when utilizing green methanol.

TMC Compressors Expands Partnership with Chantiers de l’Atlantique

In July 2024, TMC Compressors partnered with French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique to supply the marine compressed air system for a cruise ship duo being constructed for Orient Express Silenseas.

These ships, expected to be the largest sailboats globally, will be equipped with TMC’s complete system, including service and control air compressors, refrigerant air dryers, and a desiccant control air dryer. The units are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027.
