Teledyne Impulse-PDM Provides Essential Optical Fiber Connectors for BBC Studios’ Underwater Expedition

Teledyne Impulse-PDM recently played a crucial role in supporting BBC Studios’ upcoming underwater natural history series, scheduled to premiere in 2026. The company supplied its cutting-edge Omicron optical fiber connectors to facilitate the filming of extraordinary marine footage in the Arctic using the Rev Ocean’s Aurora ROV.

During the expedition, BBC Studios and Marine Imagine Technologies collaborated to design a specialized deep ocean-rated camera system integrated with a telemetry bottle, essential for communication on the submersible. However, a missing optical fiber connector posed a significant challenge, delaying the capture of vital underwater footage.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, BBC Studios reached out to Teledyne Impulse-PDM for assistance. The company swiftly provided the Omicron 5030/5070 optical connectors, known for their high-performance fiber connectivity in demanding environments. These connectors, suitable for both single-mode and multi-mode operations, proved to be the ideal solution for the BBC Studios’ deep-sea application and the stringent requirements of the Aurora ROV system.

Despite the tight timeline, Teledyne Impulse-PDM managed to expedite the delivery of the connector to Svalbard, enabling the BBC Studios research crew to resume their mission without further delay.
