Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners Awards Offshore Construction Contracts for Fengmiao 1 Wind Farm in Taiwan

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has recently made significant strides in the development of the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan by awarding key installation contracts to leading offshore construction companies. Van Oord and the joint venture between DEME and CSBC have been tasked with crucial installation work at the wind farm.

Van Oord’s Contract for Inter-Array Cables

Van Oord’s contract involves the transport, installation, and burial of 33 inter-array cables spanning approximately 64 kilometres. The company plans to utilize its cable-laying vessel, Nexus, and employ a remote-controlled trencher for cable burial. The installation work is slated to commence in 2027.

CSBC-DEME Joint Venture for Foundation Installation

The CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) joint venture has secured a contract for the transport and installation of 33 jacket foundations, along with their associated pin piles and the offshore substation. CDWE will deploy its vessel, Green Jade, for the project, starting in the first quarter of 2026. DEME highlighted the substantial value of its share in the contract, estimated between €150 million and €300 million.

Project Overview

The Fengmiao 1 offshore wind project, developed by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) on behalf of CIP, is situated 35 kilometers off the coast of Taichung. The project will feature 33 offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW.

Foundations for the project are being manufactured by South Korean company SK oceanplant, while the offshore substation is under construction by the consortium formed by Semco Maritime and PTSC Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C).

Corporate Power Purchase Agreements

CIP recently signed corporate power purchase agreements (CPPAs) with United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) and Sino-American Silicon Products and its renewable energy subsidiary, Sustainable Energy Solution. These agreements underscore CIP’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Future Plans

CIP secured capacity for the 500 MW Fengmiao 1 project in the first round of Taiwan’s Round 3 Zonal Development Offshore Wind Auction in 2022. The project is expected to have a total installed capacity of 1.8 GW across all its phases, marking a significant contribution to Taiwan’s renewable energy goals.
