Exowave Partners with AquaX Energy Americas to Launch Wave Energy Solutions in the Americas
Exowave, a leading Danish wave energy technology company, has announced a strategic partnership with AquaX Energy Americas to establish a joint venture, AquaX JV, aimed at deploying innovative wave energy solutions across North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
The collaboration between Exowave and AquaX Energy Americas is focused on implementing Exowave’s cutting-edge wave energy converter (WEC) technology in the Americas region, with a primary emphasis on sustainable energy generation and water desalination.
As part of the joint venture’s roadmap, AquaX JV plans to launch demonstrator projects along the U.S. coastline, with initial project sites identified in Monterey, California, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. These projects will serve as a testing ground for Exowave’s technology, allowing for the validation of its performance, efficiency, and commercial viability before scaling up to a 20 MW project pipeline scheduled for completion by 2030.
Oliver E. Jones, President of AquaX Energy Americas and Co-Founder of AquaX JV, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in renewable energy innovation. By integrating Exowave’s advanced technology with AquaX’s market expertise, we are poised to deliver transformative solutions for energy and water security.”
According to Exowave, AquaX JV’s deployed technology promises to provide clean electricity at a competitive rate of $60 per megawatt-hour and potable water through desalination systems at less than $0.50 per cubic meter. The venture also anticipates creating over 500 jobs in installation, maintenance, and operations by 2030.
Lars Wigant, CEO of Exowave Aps and Co-Founder of AquaX JV LLC, shared his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with AquaX Energy Americas to bring our Wave Energy Converters to the Americas. This joint venture represents a leap forward in achieving global scalability for wave energy and desalination solutions.”
AquaX JV’s mission is to support coastal and island communities with sustainable energy and water resources while aligning with U.S. sustainable development goals. The environmental benefits of the JV’s projects include near-zero carbon emissions and minimal ecological impact.
In addition to their partnership with AquaX Energy Americas, Exowave previously signed a cooperation agreement with Gugler Water Turbines in 2023 for a wave energy project planned for the Danish North Sea.
