Gulf LNG Receives First LNG Cargo, Signals Expansion Plans
Gulf LNG, a subsidiary of Thailand’s Gulf Energy Development, has received its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo.
On January 6, 2025, Gulf Energy Development welcomed its inaugural shipment of LNG. This milestone follows the company’s LNG purchase agreement with ADNOC Trading, facilitated by authorization from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to import up to 6.4 million tons of LNG annually to meet its power generation needs.
The received cargo will undergo regasification at PE LNG’s Map Ta Phut LNG terminal 2 (LMPT2) before being injected into PTT’s natural gas pipeline system for delivery to Gulf Group’s power plants.
“This inaugural LNG shipment to Gulf Group’s gas-fired power plants marks a significant milestone and underscores the commitment to the state’s gas market deregulation policy, which aims to foster competition, enhance energy security, increase flexibility in energy source procurement, and stimulate economic growth by creating a more competitive environment within the industrial sector,” noted Gulf Energy Development.
Gulf Energy Development has outlined plans to expand its natural gas business to cater to the rising demand across various sectors, particularly industrial users seeking alternative suppliers. As part of this expansion strategy, Gulf aims to develop Phase 3 of the Map Ta Phut industrial port, including an LNG terminal set to be completed by 2027.
