SEFE And Höegh Evi To Develop Hydrogen Supply Chains

SEFE and Höegh Evi Partner to Develop International Clean Hydrogen Supply Chains

SEFE Securing Energy for Europe and marine infrastructure provider Höegh Evi have recently announced a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of international supply chains for clean hydrogen, with a focus on delivering to Germany and other European locations.

Under this partnership, both companies will conduct a thorough analysis of the technical and commercial feasibility of various supply corridors for clean hydrogen, which will be based on ammonia. The ultimate goal of this agreement is to establish efficient international supply chains for clean hydrogen, encompassing the sourcing of ammonia, transportation via ship, and delivery to floating import terminals. At these terminals, the ammonia will be converted into hydrogen using advanced technologies for distribution to SEFE customers through the German hydrogen core grid.

One of the key aspects of this collaboration will involve identifying potential locations for floating ammonia-to-hydrogen terminals along Germany’s Baltic Sea and North Sea coasts, as well as exploring other suitable sites across Europe. SEFE will oversee the management of both the upstream supply portfolio and the downstream segment of the supply chain, including the global sourcing of clean molecules, aggregating hydrogen demand in Germany and Europe, and investing in the German hydrogen core grid through its subsidiary GASCADE.

On the other hand, Höegh Evi will play a crucial role in providing the midstream infrastructure necessary to connect Germany with international hydrogen markets. This will involve the transportation of ammonia by ship and the establishment of floating import terminal infrastructure. These terminals will serve as a vital source of dispatchable and baseload-ready clean hydrogen for industrial customers, facilitated by Höegh Evi’s ammonia-to-hydrogen cracker – the world’s first floating solution designed to convert ammonia to hydrogen at an industrial scale.

By combining SEFE’s expertise in hydrogen supply chain management and Höegh Evi’s innovative infrastructure solutions, this partnership aims to drive the adoption of clean hydrogen in Europe and contribute to the region’s transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
