Successful Rescue of Crewmembers from Suryani Ladjoni Cargo Vessel

The maritime authorities in Indonesia have successfully rescued 18 crew members from the aging general cargo vessel, Suryani Ladjoni. The vessel, with a deadweight tonnage of 2,380 dwt, developed leaks and started listing to port at a 25-degree angle. The captain of the vessel immediately reported the emergency to the Tanjung Perak Port Authority and local rescue station on Saturday, January 18.

The incident occurred near Madura Island, off the northeastern coast of Java, while the Suryani Ladjoni was en route from Banjarmasin to Surabaya. The SAR team dispatched the patrol boat KM Palung Mas to rescue the crew members. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions, the initial rescue attempt had to be delayed.

Eventually, the crew members were evacuated using the vessel’s rafts. The patrol boat successfully pulled them up and transported them to Teluk Lamong Port for medical treatment. Fortunately, all crew members were safely rescued with no reported casualties.

Although the cargo ship did not sink during the incident, it is currently drifting at a speed of 0.2 knots eastward. Authorities have issued warnings to other vessels in the area to be cautious of the potential dangers posed by the drifting Suryani Ladjoni.
