The Expansion of LNG Terminal on Krk Island Enters New Stage

The process of increasing the capacity of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk, Croatia, has entered a new stage with the completion of the inspection of a regasification module at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering in Shanghai, China.

This marks a significant milestone in the first phase of the project to enhance the capacity of the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) LNG Croatia. The project involves installing an additional regasification module with a capacity of 250,000 m3/h and integrating it with the existing module on the FSRU, scheduled for completion this summer.

Representatives from LNG Croatia, Dario Ferenčaba and Marko Grbić, were present during the inspection. With the inspection completed, the regasification module is now ready for delivery. The expansion is expected to enhance national and regional energy security.

Current Infrastructure and Operations

The floating LNG terminal on Krk Island currently has an annual capacity of 2.9 billion cubic meters (bcm) and consists of a 280-meter-long FSRU and an onshore terminal section. The FSRU is equipped with four LNG storage tanks totaling 140,206 cubic meters, three LNG regasification units, and a power plant that generates electricity for the terminal’s operations.

Since its operational launch in 2021, the terminal has received its 100th LNG shipment in September 2024. Subsequently, 10 more cargoes have been delivered, with the 110th shipment received by LNG Croatia onboard the LNG carrier British Achiever on January 16, 2025.
