Asso.subsea orders shallow-water cable layer from China

Greece-based Asso.subsea Orders Large Cable Layer from China Merchants

Greece-based offshore contractor Asso.subsea has placed an order for a significant shallow-water cable layer from China Merchants Heavy Industry.

The vessel, to be designed by China Merchants Industry and built at the China Merchants Industry Mazhou Island Base, will be a substantial addition to Asso.subsea’s fleet.

Key Features of the Cable Layer:

  • Length: 175 meters
  • Width: 41.8 meters
  • Designed for shallow-water and bottom-sitting operations
  • Equipped with a DP-2 dynamic positioning system
  • 12,000-tonne and 4,000-tonne powered rotating cable reels
  • Capability to lay three cables simultaneously
  • Accommodations for up to 120 crew members
  • Methanol-ready for carbon-neutral operations

The vessel is set to be delivered in 2027, showcasing Asso.subsea’s commitment to investing in state-of-the-art technology for its operations.
