Valaris’ VALARIS 144 Rig En Route to Angola for Drilling Contract

A jack-up rig owned by offshore drilling contractor Valaris is en route to Angola for a drilling contract it secured last year, following preparations in Texas.

After completing a project at the Kiewit Shipyard in Corpus Christi, Texas, the VALARIS 144 rig has embarked on a voyage to Angola for its new drilling contract. Rig Manager, Bud Baylis, mentioned that the rig was loaded onto a heavy lift vessel, initiating its journey to Angola.

Valaris had secured a one-well contract for Valaris 144 offshore Angola in the summer of 2024. The contract, scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2025 and last around 45 days, is valued at approximately $8.5 million.

Additionally, Valaris 144 has been contracted for a 13-well project offshore Angola, expected to commence in the second quarter of 2025. This long-term contract, spanning between 730 and 770 days, is valued at an estimated total of $149 million to $156 million. The operator for both contracts remains undisclosed.
