Egyptian Companies DeepTech and PMS Successfully Bring Third Well Online in WDDM Gas Field Development Project
Egyptian companies DeepTech, part of MCS Group, and Petroleum Marine Services (PMS) have successfully brought the third and final well into production as part of Phase 10 of the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) gas field development project offshore Egypt.
The partners, responsible for the engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning (EPIC), have completed the offshore operations for Phase X of WDDM for Burullus Gas Company, a joint venture of Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Shell Petroleum.
The WDDM concession is located approximately 90 kilometers offshore Egypt, on the north-western part of the Nile Delta. The project aims to maintain current and future gas supplies to the Egyptian domestic market and the Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas (ELNG) plant by developing significant gas volumes discovered in numerous fields and reservoirs.
The Phase X of WDDM includes three subsea wells, namely Sapsat-3, Sepia-1, and Seagull West-1, which are being brought online to supplement the existing 70 wells. These wells are situated at water depths ranging from 450 to 660 meters and are integrated into the existing subsea infrastructure.
DeepTech and PMS have also installed two subsea umbilicals, five and two kilometers long, to provide power to the wells. The installation operation was carried out in simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) between the PMS MAYO and PMS Burullus vessels, using DeepTech’s work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and MCS’ photo-realistic 3D Cloud (PRC) for 3D subsea metrology and survey operations. The entire umbilical installation operation took 95 hours within a seven-day period.
MCS Group’s subsea engineering team provided all engineering support, while PMS contributed with expertise in fabrication, lifting marine operations, and logistics. Project management activities were carried out by the joint team operating from a dedicated project office in Cairo.
This successful partnership also executed the Burullus WDDM field operation support contract for the past nine years, showcasing their continued commitment to the project.
London-headquartered engineering consultancy Longitude Engineering, part of ABL Group, was responsible for the design and engineering services for the subsea development of WDDM’s Phase X, further solidifying the collaboration between international and local entities in this significant project.
