Poland and Denmark Collaborate on Building Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm

Poland’s PGE and Denmark’s Orsted have made the final decision to construct Baltica 2, a 1.5-gigawatt offshore wind farm located on Poland’s Northwestern coast. The companies announced this significant milestone on Wednesday, solidifying their commitment to renewable energy development.

With a 50-50 ownership split between PGE and Orsted, Baltica 2 is slated for full commissioning in 2027, according to a joint statement released by the companies. The project has reached a critical stage with all major component and vessel contracts already signed, securing a substantial portion of the project’s capital expenditure.

In a strategic move, Orsted and PGE embarked on the development of two offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 2.5 Gigawatts back in 2021. This ambitious endeavor underscores their shared commitment to advancing clean energy solutions and reducing carbon emissions.

PGE, as Poland’s largest power group under state control, has set ambitious targets for the integration of renewable energy sources into its energy mix. The company envisions Baltic Sea wind farms playing a significant role, with a projected contribution of 40% to its electricity generation by 2040.

The collaboration between PGE and Orsted represents a significant step towards achieving sustainable energy goals and transitioning towards a greener future. By leveraging offshore wind resources and investing in cutting-edge technology, Baltica 2 promises to make a substantial impact on Poland’s energy landscape.

As the global shift towards renewable energy gains momentum, partnerships like the one between PGE and Orsted exemplify the collective effort to combat climate change and embrace a more sustainable energy paradigm. The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in driving towards a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
