Green Yard Kleven and Oceanica Partner for Vessel Conversion Project

Green Yard Kleven and the Brazilian shipowner Oceanica have joined forces in a new venture to convert the vessel Oceanicasub XVII from an Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel to a ship capable of performing Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) operations.

The conversion project will involve equipping Oceanicasub XVII with mezzanine decks for ROV equipment, extended crew capacity, and areas for charterers. Additionally, the vessel will undergo a general upgrade and class re-approval to meet the necessary standards for its new role.

Originally delivered from Green Yard Kleven in 2007 as B313 under the name Rem Balder, the UT712L anchor handler vessel was recently acquired from Solstad Offshore and renamed Normand Titan.

Local suppliers in Norway, including Volti, Ulmatec, Rovde Møbel, and Westing, will be contributing to the conversion process, with the ship scheduled to be dry-docked at the neighboring Ulstein dockyard. The design for the conversion is being handled by Marin Teknikk.

Green Yard Kleven plans to utilize second-hand components for the project and aims to resell any removed components in the second-hand market. Sales Manager Retrofit, Karl Johan Barstad, expressed, “We will have both interior parts and machinery components for sale from this project.”

CEO Hans Jørgen Fedog commended the partnership with Oceanica, stating, “I’m very satisfied that our good customer Oceanica came back to us for the fifth time. This shows that our team does a good job that the customers appreciate. The project also secures good activity for the yard in the upcoming months.”

Green Yard Kleven is currently engaged in conversion projects for Geoquip and Sea Shipping, in addition to a new building project for an Offshore Energy Vessel for OMV Petrom. Meanwhile, sister yard Green Yard Feda is working on projects for shipowners such as Ross Offshore and DOF/Maersk.

With a commitment to delivering high-quality vessel conversions and new builds, Green Yard Kleven and Oceanica are set to transform Oceanicasub XVII into a versatile and efficient vessel for ROV operations, showcasing the expertise and capabilities of the maritime industry in Norway.
