Norway’s DeepOcean Awarded Subsea Survey Contract for Offshore Wind Projects in Poland

Norway-headquartered DeepOcean has secured a subsea survey contract for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind projects in Poland, developed jointly by Equinor and Polenergia.

DeepOcean will conduct geophysical seabed surveys of the export and inter-array cable corridors using a dedicated survey remotely operated vehicle (SROV). The scope of work also includes surveys to identify potential unexploded ordinances (UXO).

The survey vessel Edda Flora will be deployed for the main survey operations, with Poland’s MEWO company acting as a subcontractor for UXO surveys utilizing the vessel Amber Cecilia.

“A dedicated survey ROV will have significant efficiency gains when compared with the alternative of using slower work class ROVs configured with a survey sensor payload. We look forward to supporting Equinor and Polenergia on these important offshore wind projects,” said Øyvind Mikaelsen, CEO of DeepOcean.

The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms will be located in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea, approximately 37 and 22 kilometers from the coastline near Ustka and Łeba.

The projects will feature 100 SG 14-236 DD wind turbines, to be installed by Cadeler. The export and inter-array cables will be supplied by Greece’s Hellenic Cables. Onshore cables were recently delivered by Poland’s Tele-Fonika Kable to Equinor and Polenergia.

The combined capacity of the two projects is expected to be 1,440 MW, generating renewable energy to power over two million households.
