Vattenfall and BASF Secure Contracts for Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2 Offshore Wind Farms
Vattenfall and BASF have recently inked agreements with key industry players for the development of the Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2 offshore wind farms in Germany. These projects mark a significant step towards expanding renewable energy sources in the region.
Component Supply and Installation Services
EEW Special Pipe Constructions (EEW SPC) and CS Wind Offshore have been selected for component supply for the projects. EEW SPC will manufacture 112 monopile foundations to support Vestas’ V236-15.0 MW wind turbines. On the other hand, CS Wind Offshore will provide transition pieces to connect the turbines to the monopiles, showcasing their expertise in the offshore wind sector.
Both companies have a proven track record in delivering high-quality components for offshore wind farms, ensuring the success of the Nordlicht projects.
Installation and Logistics
DEME and Jan De Nul have secured contracts for the transportation, installation, and cable laying at the Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2 sites. DEME will deploy specialized vessels for foundation installation and scour protection, while Jan De Nul will handle the inter-array cable installation using their state-of-the-art cable-laying vessel.
These logistical and installation services are crucial for the timely and efficient completion of the offshore wind farms, showcasing the expertise of these industry leaders.
Environmental Impact and Future Outlook
Once operational, Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2 are expected to generate approximately 6 TWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to powering 1.7 million German households. This significant contribution to renewable energy production will further bolster Germany’s green energy transition.
With construction slated to begin in 2026 and full commissioning expected by 2028, the Nordlicht projects represent a key milestone in the journey towards a sustainable energy future.
