Enhancing Offshore Safety with Innovative Technology

Salunda, a leading UK-based firm specializing in red-zone safety monitoring technology, has recently partnered with Norway’s Intellilift to implement a groundbreaking solution aimed at improving the safety of critical equipment and personnel on four drilling platforms offshore Guyana.

The collaboration between Salunda and Intellilift marks a pivotal moment in offshore safety equipment, introducing a real-time digital interface that connects wearable sensors, drilling controls, and moving machinery to provide immediate alerts to workers in hazardous environments.

Alan Finlay, CEO of Salunda, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This advancement in safety equipment is a significant milestone for the industry. Working alongside Intellilift, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of crews operating in Red Zones.”

Salunda’s CrewHawk solution enables tracking of workers and equipment, while Intellilft’s platform offers a digital interface to the drilling automation suite, providing real-time information on the position and status of machinery.

Notably, this collaboration between Salunda and Intellilift is not their first. In August 2024, the two companies worked together to optimize safety and automation in well construction, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and safety in the offshore sector.

Stig Trydal, CEO of Intellilft, emphasized the importance of technological advancements in the market, stating, “Our partnership with Salunda showcases the potential of innovative companies to challenge industry norms and drive transparency. Together, we have made significant strides, and the future holds even more promise.”

Salunda’s Hawk Analytics platform allows users to analyze data, identify trends, and visualize heatmaps of safety violations, enabling the generation of reports to improve crew training and enhance operational safety.

In a testament to the effectiveness of their solutions, Transocean selected Salunda’s zone monitoring technology for their Transocean Endurance rig in Australia, while BP opted to install the technology on their North Sea assets, further solidifying Salunda’s reputation as a leader in offshore safety monitoring.
