Ultranav Trials Fuel-Saving Initiative with Signol

Danish shipping line Ultranav has announced a six-month trial partnership with Signol – a behavior change service aimed at promoting fuel-saving practices among crew members.

The trial, implemented on 19 vessels in Ultranav’s fleet, is part of the company’s commitment to reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Signol utilizes technology and behavioral science to engage and motivate crew members to make sustainable and fuel-efficient decisions in their daily tasks. The service delivers behavior change techniques through a web app and targeted emails.

According to Signol, its strategies have led to a 4-12% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions for maritime clients.

Bas Blaak, Ultranav’s head of energy efficiency and sustainability, expressed optimism about the potential impact of Signol’s service, stating, “Every tonne of saved CO2 counts, and small adjustments to our daily routines can contribute to the overall goal.”

In 2024, Ultranav invested in Signol, a company that has already helped aviation and shipping customers save $25 million in fuel costs and reduce over 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
