Palfinger Marine Wins Contract with Finnish Meyer Turku Shipyard for Royal Caribbean’s Fourth Icon Class Ship

Palfinger Marine has secured a contract with the Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard to provide lifesaving appliances (LSA) for Royal Caribbean International’s fourth Icon Class ship, scheduled to launch in 2027.

The fourth Icon Class vessel, being constructed at the Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard, will be equipped with a comprehensive suite of state-of-the-art LSA. This includes 18 lifeboats, featuring one of the largest totally enclosed lifeboats available in the market, each capable of accommodating up to 450 passengers. In addition, 18 hydraulic pivoting davits will ensure the safe and efficient deployment of the lifeboats. Palfinger Marine will also deliver two fast rescue boat A-frame davits for swift emergency response, along with two fast rescue boats designed for speed and maneuverability. The project timeline calls for the delivery of the davits between 2025 and 2026, followed by the boats in 2026 and 2027.

This collaboration between Palfinger Marine and Meyer Turku shipyard underscores the commitment to providing cutting-edge safety equipment for Royal Caribbean International’s fleet. The advanced LSA package will enhance the safety and security of passengers and crew onboard the fourth Icon Class ship, ensuring compliance with the highest industry standards.

With Palfinger Marine’s expertise in delivering reliable and high-performance marine equipment, combined with Meyer Turku’s reputation for excellence in shipbuilding, the partnership is poised to deliver top-notch lifesaving solutions for Royal Caribbean’s upcoming vessel.

As the maritime industry continues to prioritize safety and operational efficiency, partnerships like this one highlight the importance of reliable and innovative LSA solutions for modern cruise ships. The collaboration between Palfinger Marine and Meyer Turku is a testament to their shared dedication to maritime safety and excellence.
