McDermott Completes Offshore Installation and Commissioning Activities Ahead of Schedule

U.S.-headquartered offshore engineering and construction player McDermott has successfully completed offshore installation and commissioning activities for a project offshore East Malaysia ahead of schedule. The contract, awarded by PTTEP Sabah Oil (PTTEP) in early 2024, involved deepwater work at approximately 1,400 meters.

The scope of work for the Kikeh subsea gas lift project included replacing an existing gas lift riser, installing a new dynamic riser section, flowline, and two thermoplastic composite pipe jumpers. Remarkably, the offshore phase was completed in under eight months, showcasing McDermott’s efficiency and expertise in delivering complex projects.

“Completing the project ahead of schedule stands as testament to McDermott’s capabilities in delivering safe and efficient solutions for deepwater field development projects,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, McDermott’s Senior Vice President, Subsea and Floating Facilities.

“This project adds to our successful project execution track record and highlights our commitment to operational excellence, the importance of collaboration and teamwork, and the value of leveraging local expertise and resources to exceed customer expectations.”

Kikeh, launched in 2009, is one of Malaysia’s largest deepwater developments, located about 120 kilometers northwest of Labuan Island, offshore Sabah. McDermott’s work on the field focused on maintaining gas delivery to the subsea production system connected to the Kikeh floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.

In recent developments, McDermott completed the sale of its storage business to a financial investor consortium led by Mason Capital Management. This strategic move enables CB&I to operate as an independent entity with no funded debt, positioning the company for future growth and success.
