Van Oord’s Svanen Installs First Monopile at Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm

The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, located north of the Polish coast, is making strides in renewable energy with the installation of its first monopile by Van Oord’s heavy lift installation vessel, Svanen. Developed by ORLEN and Northland Power, the wind farm project has contracted Van Oord for the transport and installation of 78 foundations, each comprising a monopile fitted with a transition piece.

Once completed, the Baltic Power offshore wind farm is set to have a production capacity of up to 1.2 GW, providing renewable energy to over 1.5 million households in Poland. The project is expected to be finalized by 2026.

New Generation Wind Turbines

The wind farm will feature the latest generation of wind turbines, boasting a generating capacity of 15 WM. To accommodate these larger turbines, the Svanen underwent a significant upgrade, including the extension of its gantry crane by 25 meters. This enhancement positions the Svanen as one of the largest heavy lift installation vessels globally, ready to install the foundations for the new generation of wind turbines.

With this upgrade, Van Oord is well-equipped to handle the evolving technology in wind farm construction, as turbines and foundations continue to increase in size to meet the rising global demand for renewable energy.

Van Oord’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions is evident in their involvement in projects like the Baltic Power offshore wind farm. By leveraging their expertise and cutting-edge equipment like the Svanen, they are contributing to the transition towards a cleaner and greener future.
