Chinese Firm Hilong Petroleum Secures Contract for Eni’s Congo LNG Project Phase 2

Chinese firm Hilong Petroleum Offshore Engineering has been awarded a transportation and installation contract for the second phase of Eni’s Congo LNG project. The contract, valued at approximately $56 million, involves the transport and installation of two wellhead platforms. The project is set to commence in June and is expected to be completed by mid-November 2025.

The two wellhead platforms will facilitate the transportation of gas to a floating production unit, currently undergoing conversion from the Scarabeo 5 rig at CIMC Raffles yard in China. The gas will be separated from liquids and fed to the Nguya FLNG, which will be stationed northwest of the Djeno terminal in a water depth of around 35 meters.

The Nguya FLNG unit, designed to produce 2.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG, is nearing completion at Wison New Energies’ yard in China. Once operational, it will significantly contribute to the overall liquefaction capacity of Eni’s Congo LNG project.

Eni’s existing Tango FLNG unit, commissioned in December 2023 off Congo-Brazzaville, has a capacity of 0.6 mtpa. With the addition of the Nguya FLNG, the total liquefaction capacity for Eni’s Congo LNG project is expected to reach 3 mtpa by the end of 2025.
