Trillion Energy Advances Gas Production in Türkiye Despite Weather Delays

Canada’s oil and gas player Trillion Energy is pressing on with stimulating natural gas production at a field off the coast of Türkiye following weather-induced delays.

In January 2025, Trillion Energy completed the installation of new velocity string tubing in two wells located on tripods, Alapli-2 and Bayhanli-2, at the SASB field after approximately two weeks of work.

Starting in October 2024, new tubing was installed in four wells on the Akçakoca platform, with a total of six wells now receiving the new smaller tubing size (2 3/8″) to mitigate water loading conditions.

Despite severe weather conditions causing delays, nitrogen stimulation operations were set to resume on January 16. Nitrogen tubes were loaded onto the workboat and headed to the Akkaya tripod for stimulation on Alapli-2, followed by the East Ayazli tripod for Bayhanli-2.

While nitrogen injections have been ongoing to stimulate production, inclement weather has caused delays in achieving stable long-term flow rates at Alapli-2 and Bayhanli-2.

Trillion Energy plans to stimulate the Akçakoca-3 and South Akçakoca-2 wells with nitrogen once weather conditions stabilize. Additionally, a gas lift compressor system has been sourced for the Akçakoca platform to support production.

Further interventions involving artificial lift strategies such as a progressive cavity pump (PCP) and slim-hole electric submersible pumps (ESPs) are planned to optimize well performance and sustain long-term production rates in the upcoming months.
