TGS Secures New Multi-Client 3D Seismic Survey Project in Norwegian Barents Sea

Norwegian seismic firm TGS has announced the acquisition of a new multi-client 3D streamer survey project in the Goliat area of the Norwegian Barents Sea. The project will cover up to 1,600 square kilometers and include recent discoveries such as Countach, Elgol, and Lupa, expanding TGS’ existing data coverage in the prolific Hammerfest Basin.

The Hammerfest Basin 3D project is set to commence in early August 2025, aiming to further explore the promising area. CEO of TGS, Kristian Johansen, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The Goliat area is one of the hot spots in the Norwegian Barents Sea with significant drilling success and exciting new discoveries. We are very pleased to secure funding for more multi-client 3D acquisition in this part of the Norwegian Continental Shelf for the 2025 summer season.”

The multi-client project is supported by industry funding, highlighting the collaborative effort within the sector to advance seismic survey technology and exploration in the region. TGS’ GeoStreamer technology will play a crucial role in capturing high-quality data for analysis and interpretation.

With a focus on enhancing understanding of the subsurface geology and potential hydrocarbon resources, the new survey project signifies TGS’ commitment to providing valuable insights for oil and gas companies operating in the Norwegian Barents Sea. The company’s expertise in seismic data acquisition and processing positions them as a key player in the exploration and production sector.

As exploration activities in the region continue to evolve, TGS remains at the forefront of innovation, utilizing advanced technologies to deliver comprehensive seismic solutions. The upcoming survey in the Goliat area is poised to contribute valuable data that could lead to further discoveries and development opportunities in the Norwegian Barents Sea.
