ABS and Akselos Join Forces to Advance Floating Offshore Wind Projects

ABS and Akselos have recently announced a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to revolutionize engineering and certification processes for floating offshore wind projects.

The collaboration between ABS, a renowned offshore certification and classification expert, and Akselos, a leading provider of simulation technology for structural risk mitigation and optimization, aims to drive innovation in the floating wind sector. By combining their expertise, the two companies are committed to optimizing design, reducing costs, and enhancing efficiency for floating offshore wind projects on a global scale.

This strategic alliance is aligned with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Floating Offshore Wind Energy Shot initiative, which seeks to achieve a 70 percent reduction in costs to reach $45 per MWh by 2035. Additionally, the partnership will cater to the growing demand in the global market for floating offshore wind solutions, which hold immense potential for expansion.

Rob Langford, Vice President of Global Offshore Renewables at ABS, emphasized the importance of developing safe, sustainable, and reliable infrastructure for the floating offshore wind industry. He stated, “Enabling enhanced technology solutions will aid in the reduction of LCOE and support decision making by financial and insurance institutions. The partnership between ABS and Akselos will support the ever-growing need for renewable offshore energy and continue to facilitate the design, construction, and installation of floating wind projects.”

Guillaume Lechaton, Wind and New Energies Director at Akselos, highlighted the strategic significance of the collaboration with ABS. He mentioned, “Our floating wind alliance with ABS, a leader in offshore certification and classification, is a strategic step to add value to this very promising yet challenging industry. By combining ABS’ expertise with Akselos’ advanced simulation tools, we aim to create a framework for more reliable, robust, and cost-efficient solutions for designers and operators.”
