Award-Winning FPSO Design for Deep Waters of West Africa

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) recently granted Hanwha Ocean an Approval in Principle (AIP) for its innovative Pre-FEED standard FPSO design tailored for the challenging deep waters of West Africa. This accolade marks a significant milestone in the offshore industry, showcasing cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices.

Key Features of the FPSO Design

The FPSO design boasts impressive specifications, with a length of 340 meters and a storage capacity of approximately 2.38 million barrels of crude oil. It has a daily production capacity of 190,000 barrels, making it a formidable asset for oil and gas operations in the region.

Designed to house topsides for both crude oil and gas production facilities, the hull is engineered to operate efficiently for up to 20 years without requiring dry docking. This longevity ensures optimal performance and cost-effectiveness over the unit’s lifecycle.

Embracing Environmental Sustainability

In response to increasingly stringent environmental regulations, the FPSO incorporates cutting-edge technologies to minimize its carbon footprint. Features such as zero-flaring, GHG monitoring, and an energy management system underscore Hanwha Ocean’s commitment to sustainability.

All equipment on the FPSO has been electrified to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs. This forward-thinking approach aligns with industry trends towards cleaner and more sustainable energy practices.

Integration of Advanced Digital Solutions

Recognizing the importance of digitalization in the offshore sector, the FPSO design includes advanced digital solutions such as cybersecurity, digital twin technology, and predictive maintenance capabilities. These innovations enhance operational efficiency, safety, and reliability, setting a new standard for offshore asset management.

Future Growth Prospects

Hanwha Ocean foresees a growing demand for offshore plants, particularly in regions like West Africa and South America. The company’s strategic partnership with ABS, a renowned leader in FPSO classification, positions them well to capitalize on emerging opportunities and drive industry innovation.

“ABS is a world leader in FPSO classification, and we are proud to leverage this expertise to support Hanwha Ocean’s groundbreaking approach,” said Matt Tremblay, ABS Vice President, Global Offshore. This collaboration exemplifies the synergy between industry leaders driving progress in the offshore sector.
