The UAE-based AD Ports Group and ASRY Collaborate on Maritime Initiatives in Bahrain

The UAE-based terminal operator AD Ports Group and the Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard Company (ASRY) have signed three Heads of Terms (HoTs) agreements to work together on marine services and port initiatives in Bahrain.

The first agreement is focused on a joint venture to manage and improve drydock sites and green ship recycling efforts in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. By combining their capabilities and facilities, both parties aim to enhance sustainability in the maritime sector.

The second agreement, with JM Baxi, aims to establish green ship recycling facilities to promote a circular economy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This initiative will leverage the expertise of both companies in marine services and logistics.

Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, emphasized the importance of responsible ship recycling and creating value through collaboration.

The final agreement focuses on joint investment opportunities at ports and terminals, allowing both companies to explore potential areas for development.

This collaboration follows the launch of ASRY Marine, a joint venture between Noatum Maritime and ASRY, offering integrated marine services in Bahrain.

Other industry players, such as Maersk, have also shown interest in bolstering ship recycling capabilities in the region. In 2024, Maersk signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to evaluate and establish a ship recycling initiative.

Under this agreement, ASRY will be equipped with the necessary solutions for the ship recycling process, with Maersk providing technical expertise on sustainable practices.
