Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) Mundra has achieved a historic milestone by welcoming CMA CGM Fort Diamant, India’s first-ever Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-powered container ship.

The vessel docked at the port’s Container Terminal-CT4.

The ship is 268 meters long, 43 meters wide, and has a capacity of 7,000 containers. It operates on the CIMEX2K/AS-1 service, which connects the Indian subcontinent with China, boosting global trade between the two regions.

APSEZ reported that the seamless berthing of the vessel shows the port’s innovative technology and operational excellence.

As India’s largest and flagship port, Mundra is equipped with advanced infrastructure to handle ships with drafts of up to 21 meters. Its strong connectivity through highways, railways, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) ensures efficient cargo movement.

The adoption of LNG as a marine fuel represents a major step forward in reducing carbon emissions in the shipping industry.

LNG-powered vessels like CMA CGM Fort Diamant are cleaner and more eco-friendly than traditional ships, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable maritime practices.

Mundra Port has a strong track record of hosting some of the largest container vessels to ever dock in India, such as MSC Anna and APL Raffles. With this achievement, the port further solidifies its position as a leading container hub in South Asia.

APSEZ, which operates 13 ports across seven Indian states, contributes nearly one-fourth of the country’s total cargo movement. These ports are equipped to handle a wide range of cargo, including dry goods, liquids, crude oil, and containers.

Additionally, APSEZ’s subsidiary, Adani Logistics Ltd., operates three logistics parks in Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, enhancing the company’s supply chain network.
