The Agogo FPSO: A Technologically Advanced Offshore Production Asset

On May 8, 2025, the Agogo floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, operated by Yinson Production for Azule Energy, made a scheduled technical stop at Walvis Bay in Namibia. This brief stopover was part of planned logistics to replenish stores and facilitate crew changes as the vessel continues its journey to a field offshore Angola.

With a production capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil per day, the Agogo FPSO is one of the world’s most advanced offshore production assets. It is equipped with cutting-edge carbon-reduction technology, including the industry’s first pilot post-combustion carbon capture system on an FPSO. Additionally, the vessel features a closed flare system, hydrocarbon blanketing, combined cycle technology, automated process controls, and all-electric drives.

The Agogo FPSO is expected to operate in the Agogo Integrated West Hub Development Project in Block 15/06 offshore Angola for Azule Energy under a 15-year firm charter with the option to extend for another five years. The total contract value is estimated to be up to approximately $5.3 billion.

Yinson Production has stated that the carbon-reducing technologies onboard the FPSO are projected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 27%. This commitment to sustainability aligns with the industry’s push towards environmental responsibility and mitigating climate change.

Per Dyberg, Project Director of Yinson Production, expressed pride in the successful transit of the Agogo FPSO through Walvis Bay, highlighting the coordination and commitment of the teams involved. He emphasized the vessel’s presence in Walvis Bay as a reflection of the growing role of African ports in enabling large-scale energy infrastructure projects.

As the Agogo FPSO continues its journey towards Angola, it stands as a testament to the technical complexity and international collaboration required for modern energy projects in the region. The vessel’s advanced technology and commitment to carbon reduction set a high standard for offshore production assets worldwide.
