Aker Solutions Awarded Contract for BalWin2 Offshore Wind Project

Aker Solutions to Deliver Steel Substructure for BalWin2 Offshore Wind Grid Connection in Germany

Aker Solutions, a leading provider of sustainable solutions for the energy industry, has recently secured a contract with Dragados Offshore to supply the steel substructure for the 2GW HVDC converter station as part of the BalWin2 offshore wind grid connection system in Germany. This project is being developed by Amprion Offshore GmbH, a key player in the renewable energy sector.

The agreement with Dragados Offshore marks a significant milestone in Aker Solutions’ commitment to supporting the transition towards renewable energy sources. The contract includes the fabrication of the HVDC substructures at Aker Solutions’ yard in Verdal, Norway.

Key Project Details

With this contract award, Dragados Offshore has exercised the option for the second HVDC converter station for the BalWin development in Germany. The project is expected to create employment opportunities for over 450 people at its peak.

The scope of Aker Solutions’ involvement in the project encompasses procurement, fabrication engineering, and construction of the offshore HVDC converter platform substructure. The preparation phase is set to commence in the first quarter of 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. Delivery of the substructure is anticipated in 2029.
