Norway’s Aker Solutions Introduces Three New Floating Wind Foundation Designs

Norway’s Aker Solutions has recently unveiled three innovative floating wind foundation designs, each capable of supporting turbines with a capacity of 15MW and larger. These cutting-edge designs aim to revolutionize the offshore wind industry and further accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

The YFloat

The YFloat foundation is engineered to provide a stable platform for wind turbines. Its symmetrical design allows for efficient pre-fabrication and local assembly, reducing material usage and simplifying the manufacturing process. This design also offers scalability, enabling higher power generation and a reduced levelized cost of energy.

The CONFloat-Omega

The CONFloat-Omega features a circular concrete floater concept with a moon pool at its center and an offset turbine and tower arrangement. This design is specifically tailored for harsh environmental conditions, utilizing concrete material and robust construction to ensure high resistance to fatigue and minimal maintenance requirements.

The CONFloat-7C

Lastly, the CONFloat-7C design incorporates a seven-cell configuration with a centralized turbine and tower layout. This configuration reduces integration and completion draught, allowing for a wider range of execution locations and ports, thereby enhancing flexibility and efficiency in offshore wind farm installations.

Overall, Aker Solutions’ new floating wind foundation designs demonstrate the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the renewable energy sector. These advancements are poised to drive the adoption of larger wind turbines and optimize the performance of offshore wind farms, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
