Algoma Endeavour Completes Reflagging Process at Port of Montreal
Algoma Endeavour, the latest eco-friendly Equinox class vessel constructed for Algoma Central Corporation, has successfully completed its reflagging process at the Port of Montreal. This final step signifies its readiness to operate under the Canadian flag as it embarks on its journey along the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes network.
With impressive dimensions of 225 meters in length and 23.8 meters in width, the Endeavour boasts a bulk cargo capacity of 29,300 tonnes. Its versatile design allows for the transportation of various commodities, including grain, salt, gypsum, construction materials, and iron ore.
Delivered at the 3 Maj Shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia, in February of this year, the Algoma Endeavour is the culmination of Algoma’s fleet renewal strategy, which commenced in 2010. This strategic initiative involves a substantial investment of approximately $600 million for the acquisition of twelve new vessels to enhance Algoma’s Canadian bulk fleet.
The Endeavour, specifically tailored for operations within the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, incorporates advanced energy efficiency technologies that result in an impressive average 40% reduction in carbon intensity compared to its predecessors. Notably, the vessel features a forward-mounted self-unloading boom, enabling efficient cargo delivery in confined spaces and facilitating enhanced port access, thus enhancing flexibility.
Joining the ranks of the Algoma Innovator and Algoma Intrepid, the Endeavour is the third vessel in the fleet equipped with this innovative self-unloading capability. This strategic addition underscores Algoma’s commitment to sustainability, operational efficiency, and technological advancement within the maritime industry.
